Matt Morgan is a commercial law attorney licensed in both Mississippi and Louisiana. His primary legal practice includes commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, and oil, gas, and mineral law. Matt previously served as general counsel for an oil and gas exploration company, managing and acquiring oil and gas assets across several states. He has significant experience in several mineral and commercial law areas including mineral rights, leasehold rights, surface rights, joint operating agreements, joint development agreements, oil and gas partnerships, farmout agreements, operator rights, oil and gas acquisitions and divestitures, oil and gas title issues, regulatory compliance, and division of interest calculations. Matt’s practice also includes mergers and acquisitions as well as negotiating and drafting complex business contracts.
Matt is a graduate of William and Mary Law School with honors where he served as the managing editor of the William and Mary Bill of Rights Journal. During law school, he also worked as a research assistant in researching and supplementing several books, articles, and commercial law treatises including: The Commercial Law of Intellectual Property, The Law of Fraudulent Transactions, The Law of Suretyship and Guaranty, and Peter A. Alces’s The Moral Conflict of Law and Neuroscience. Matt is the author of What Did They Mean?: How Principles of Group Communication Can Inform Original Meaning Jurisprudence and Address the Problem of Collective Intent, 23 Wm. & Mary Bill Rts. J. 1215 (2015).
Matt was born in Louisiana and has been a fixture of the North Louisiana music scene for many years. Building musical instruments and restoring antique woodworking machines are among his hobbies.
